According to the World Health Organization, approximately 8 percent of males and 18 percent of females worldwide experience migraine headaches. Migraines are serious headaches that often leave their sufferers debilitated and unable to perform daily routines. However, information is surfacing that some vitamins may help sufferers experience fewer migraines.


Vitamin B2


Commonly known as riboflavin, this vitamin is found in meat, fish and eggs. It has shown some promising results in fighting migraines. A daily does of at least 400 mg is recommended for optimal results without overdosing on the vitamin.


Vitamin B6


Certain food triggers may contribute to the number of migraines a person suffers. One of the most prominent food triggers is MSG. Cutting back on MSG might reduce migraines, but vitamin B6 helps by counteracting the effects of MSG.


Vitamin C








Having too much manganese in the body may contribute to migraines. High levels can be counteracted by a series of minerals and vitamins. However, one of the most effective ways to lower manganese is by increasing vitamin C, which helps decrease levels to a normal range.








Vitamin E


Another supposed cause of migraines is an excess of iron in the body. The vitamin most able to counteract the effects of iron, as well as lower the amount of iron in the body, is vitamin E.


Vitamin B12


The presence of nitric oxide is thought to contribute to outbreaks of acute migraines. Vitamin B12 is one of the few elements that may lower levels of nitric oxide in the body.
