The human eye provides its own moisture through tears and blinking. Eyes that don't have enough moisture can feel dry and irritated. Known as Dry Eye Syndrome, an eye doctor can best recommend treatment.
Artificial Tears
The most common remedy for Dry Eye Syndrome is artificial tears. These are more than just eye drops, they're made to simulate natural tears and lubricate the eye.
FDA
There are several diet supplements on the market that are supposed to relieve dry eyes. Remember when using natural treatments that supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, and sometimes claims aren't substantiated.
Omega 3
A diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids may help increase tear production. Sources include tuna, sardines, flaxseed oil and some nuts.
Vitamin A
We've all been told that carrots are good for your eyesight because they're a good source of vitamin A. A vitamin A deficiency has been linked to Dry Eye Syndrome.
Blinking
Blink often, sometimes holding your eyes closed a second or longer. Very gently rub your eyelids to promote tear production, but don't press down on your eyes while doing it.
More Suggestions
There are other things that you can do to help dry eyes. Use a humidifier in the winter to alleviate dry air. Avoid smoke, especially cigarette smoke. Drink lots of water. Get plenty of rest, allowing
