What Vitamins Are Good For Your Skin

Vitamins can help solve skin problems in many cases. This is because skin problems are often a result of a vitamin deficiency. Some of the vitamins used for skin care are applied topically and others are taken orally. In most cases if you have skin problems you will use a combination of both methods to improve your skin condition. There are many vitamins that are good for your skin, once you know what function each serves you can decide which vitamins you need to take.


Vitamin C








Many people think of vitamin C as the vitamin you take to prevent colds and other illnesses, but vitamin C actually serves a multitude of purposes. In skin care, vitamin C can help prevent the type of damage to your skin from prolonged sun exposure that causes skin cancer. You can apply vitamin C topically to achieve these benefits. Vitamin E


Vitamin E is often used in skin care products. Vitamin E serves a multitude or purposes for the skin. First, vitamin E reduce or prevent wrinkles and sun damage. Additionally, vitamin E can also help smooth and repair the skin. You can take up to 400 mg of vitamin E each day, but you can also apply vitamin E topically. As with vitamin C, you apply vitamin E topically by using a cream or lotion that contains it or you can apply it directly to the skin by bursting a vitamin E capsule.


Vitamin A


Lack of vitamin A in your diet can lead to a number of skin problems including dry and flaky skin. Additionally, adding vitamin A to your skin care regimen can help improve a number of skin conditions including psoriasis, acne and wrinkles. When used for skin care vitamin A is best when applied topically. You can find skin care products that contain vitamin A fairly easily. Additionally, beta carotene and retinol are both derived from vitamin A, so you can also use products that contain either of these ingredients.


Vitamin K


Vitamin K is one of the unsung heros of skin care. It can help reduce the appearance of dark under eye circles, bruises and even stretch marks. It can also help decrease the appearance of wrinkles. When used for skin care vitamin K is only effective if it is applied topically, and is most effective when combined with vitamin A. As is with vitamin A, vitamin K can often be found in skin care creams and lotions.


Vitamin B Complex


Vitamin B complex contains one of the most essential vitamins for skin care, biotin. Biotin is an essential element for skin, hair and nails. Even a mild deficiency of biotin can cause skin problems and even hair loss. However, other elements of B complex are also important. For instance, niacin helps your skin stay moist, it reduces inflammation and in some cases it can even out a blotchy complexion. When applied topically, vitamin B complex can quickly make your skin look more supple, even toned, less irritated and more youthful. You can also improve your skin by taking a daily vitamin B complex. As with other skin nourishing vitamins, there are many creams and lotions that you can buy that contain vitamin B complex.
