Vitamin E is not associated with crystal formation on the skin, but individuals who are suspected of having allergies or who are sensitive to vitamin E should avoid using skin treatments that contain the vitamin, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Use
Vitamin E is known for its antioxidant properties and has been thought to reduce scarring on skin caused by cuts and acne when applied directly. Vitamin C is known to leave crystals on the skin after application, not vitamin E.
Side Effects
Skin reactions known as dermatitis and eczema have been reported after using vitamin E skin ointment and cream treatments, but crystals on skin are not associated with the vitamin.
Dietary Sources
If you are not comfortable with direct skin application, consume foods that have vitamin E. Some foods with vitamin E include eggs, fruit, green leafy vegetables, olive oil and whole grains.

The process of increasing male fertility is not a complicated one, however, it can be a moderately difficult one as it requires sometimes drastic lifestyle changes. The following article details 10 ways to help boost male fertility, and when all are combined together can have very dramatic results.
Instructions
1. The number one way to increase male fertility is to stop smoking if you currently are. Smoking cigarettes introduces toxic chemicals into the body and causes serious damage to the shape and mobility of sperm. It also causes sperm to clump together decreasing their effectiveness. Stopping smoking has shown dramatic results on it's own, causing former smokers sperm count to increase 50 - 800% between 5 and 15 months after quitting.
2. The second most common offender to male fertility is caffeine. Caffeine is in many everyday drinks and foods we eat. Coffee, energy drinks, soda, and chocolate all contain caffeine. However, caffeine has been shown to affect the DNA of sperm and decreasing their motility if it is consumed on a regular basis. If you consume any caffeine on a regular basis, stop doing so now.
3. Consuming many drugs, legal and otherwise, can have a negative effect on male fertility. Many blood pressure medications have been shown to decrease fertility. Also, illegal substances such as cocaine, marijuana, and heroine, and anabolic steroids have been linked to decreased fertility and/or abnormal sperm. It is important to avoid these drugs when trying to conceive.
4. Some occupations have been directly related to lower male fertility, including those that work with pesticides, cleaning chemicals, and other toxins. If you work at a job that involves working with chemicals, evaluate your options and what alternatives you may have concerning exposure to them.
5. Exercise has been shown to boost male fertility, however, activities such as biking and cycling have done the opposite. Due to the bicycle seat impacting the testicles in a negative way, sperm quality and quantity are lowered. Avoid activities where physical trauma can occur to the testicles to ensure higher fertility.
6. For much of the same reason listed above, sitting or driving for long periods has also shown to decrease male fertility. Avoid sitting for long periods, and if necessary, get up or out of the car and walk around for a few minutes to avoid damage to the sperm.
7. Diet is important to male fertility, but something to avoid when trying for a successful pregnancy is MSG. MSG has been shown to lower the success rates of impregnation in test subjects by 50% when it was consumed prior to testing. MSG is present in many potato chips, soups, and seasonings. Be sure and check the labels of any processed foods before buying or consuming them.
8. Avoid hot tubs, hot showers and baths, and saunas when trying to boost male fertility. Exposure to high temperatures causes severe damage to the sperm that must maintain a very regulated temperature to survive and be healthy.
9. If you have been sexually active and have not been recently checked for sexually transmitted diseases (STD's), do so now. STD's can have serious irreversible consequences with the male reproductive system in the long term and can interfere with fertility soon after acquiring them. Be safe and get checked.
10. The final tip here isn't something to avoid like the others above, but just the opposite. New recent studies have shown that having sex more often leads to higher quality sperm. This is likely due to the sperm not being subjected to environmental and physical harm in the testicles. This can lead to higher quality sperm in males in only a few days.

In AdvoCare, you want the best in training for yourself and others.
Likely, you are already associated with AdvoCare or seriously considering doing so. You want training that will bring you satisfying results while building up people and your business. An extra bonus would be to achieve and share this training at little or no cost. Here are some guidelines to do that.
Corporate Training
AdvoCare offers training for its associates that often is free or at cost through its AdvoCare New Distributor program. The program allows marketing company leaders to design a long-term training and motivational program. Good training teaches you ways to find prospects, present your program to them, use the products effectively and, if they wish, also develop a business.
Training Among Associates
As a company grows, successful teams come to the surface with grass-roots training, offering systems and techniques that work best for that particular company. One AdvoCare independent team offers a training program called Become the Champion programs. This involves goal-setting, planning, working effectively and training new associates.
Professional Trainers
When a company attracts thousands of new distributors, it also tends to attract professional marketing trainers not associated with the company itself. These are the generic trainers, motivators and sales-aids sellers. Some could be helpful in refining your marketing but oftentimes they are expensive and no more effective than low-cost programs offered by AdvoCare itself or its independent distributors. Check with your sponsor and their sponsors as to what they recommend.

Coffee can be used to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Caffeine is a main ingredient in anti-cellulite creams. Coffee, which contains a high concentration of caffeine, can be used to create an inexpensive anti-cellulite treatment. Bestcellulitetreatments.com reports that some dermatologists have credited caffeine with improving blood flow, which removes built-up fluid in skin and decreases fat deposits. Though use of coffee to treat cellulite is not a proven science, the bean can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Instructions
1. Place 1/2-cup of ground coffee in a bowl. Put it in the microwave and heat on high for one minute. Ensure it is not too hot because you will apply it to your skin.
2. Mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil with the grinds. Take the mixture to the bathroom and apply it to the cellulite.
3. Wrap the area with plastic wrap. Leave it for fifteen minutes.
4. Remove the coffee and plastic wrap and shower while rubbing the cellulite. Repeat this process three times per week or more, depending on how serious your cellulite is.
Many green vegetables, like broccoli, brussels sprouts and spinach, contain vitamin K.
Vitamin K is not a single substance, but actually a family of similar chemical compounds. There are two main types of vitamin K: the first is called menaquinone and is produced by the bacteria in the human gut, and the second type is called phylloquinone, which is produced by plants. Although the vitamin K produced in the intestines does contribute to vitamin K requirements, the majority of vitamin K is acquired through dietary means. There are many vegetables that contain the phylloquinone form of vitamin K, particularly leafy greens.
Instructions
1. Frozen green peas are an excellent source of vitamin K.
Choose fresh or frozen vegetables over the canned varieties. The intense processing methods for canning vegetables can reduce their vitamin K content. Frozen vegetables are a good alternative over fresh, as they are quickly frozen soon after harvesting, which allows them to retain their nutrient content. Frozen spinach, green peas, asparagus and brussel sprouts are widely available.
2. Bright, fresh carrots are a good source of vitamin K.
Choose brightly colored vegetables when buying them fresh, and avoid any that are yellowed or browned, or that show signs of wilting. The older the vegetables, the less nutrient value they contain. Carrots, green beans, kale and Swiss chard are all good sources of vitamin K that are available fresh.
3. Romaine lettuce is a better choice than iceberg for vitamin K content.
Make conscious choices and do the research: according to a study done by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, romaine lettuce contains four times as much vitamin K as an equal amount of iceberg lettuce. Since vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin, the less water in the food, the higher the concentration of vitamin K. For example, tomato paste contains a much greater quantity of vitamin K than an equal amount of fresh tomatoes.
To get rid of a severe cough, it is important to get healthy. Many experts recommend boosting your immune system to overcome a problem cough. Always cover your mouth when you cough, to prevent spreading the virus that caused the cough. Check with your physician to determine if the cough is the result of a virus or bacteria, or if it might be attributed to another condition.
Instructions
1. Consult with a physician for expert medical advice on the cause of your cough. Severe coughs are not always the result of viral or bacterial infection. You could be experiencing asthma, sinus problems, allergies or gastroesophageal reflux disease.
2. Purchase vitamin supplements from a reputable source. Health-food stores carry many types of supplements, and online sources like Puritan's Pride offer an excellent selection at reasonable prices. Pharmacists can also recommend top brands of supplements. You might want to try the "alphabet," or A-B-C-D, vitamin approach to better health and less coughing. Taking Vitamin A will strengthen your mucous membranes, helping fortify against viruses. Vitamin B, especially that found in food, is a great line of defense in the battle against the infections that result in severe coughing. Vitamin C will strengthen the cell membranes and help you fight off viruses, and Vitamin D, which you can get free from sunlight, strengthens the immune system and reduces inflammation.
3. Add foods to your diet with naturally occurring vitamins. Whole grains, unsweetened yogurt, molasses, beans, organ meats and raw sunflower seeds are all excellent sources of vitamin B. Citrus fruits like lemons and oranges contain high concentrations of vitamin C, while vitamin A is found in healthy amounts in cold-water fish like bream and cod.
4. Avoid adding sugar to anything you eat. Extra and processed sugar can irritate your respiratory system.
5. Get 15 minutes of sunlight daily if possible. This will give you a natural boost of Vitamin D without risking sun damage to the skin. You can wear SPF 15 sunscreen if you like.
6. Drink water throughout the day. Generally, you should drink at least eight glasses each day.
7. Practice slow, controlled breathing after a coughing spell to help calm your body. Inhaling through your nose and out through your mouth will help.
8. Add honey and lemon to a glass of water and sip throughout the day. Many people find that warming this mixture soothes their throat and alleviates their cough.

Women can use supplements to beef up thier bodies and gain weight.
Women with low body weight benefit from nutritional support. Supplements for women to gain weight often include ingredients that are used by weightlifters, since the extra nutrients in these supplements support the healthy growth of bones as well as muscles and joint tissue, ensuring balanced weight gain. This is especially important to the eight million American women who are affected by osteoporosis.
Probiotics
Probiotics include live strains of bacteria that help the digestive system work efficiently. The same bacteria present in yogurt--e.g., acidophilus and bifidus--increase favorable microbial conditions inside the digestive tract, promoting more effective digestion through an increase in the absorption of nutrients. Where weight loss is associated with illnesses involving courses of antibiotics, probiotic supplements are an especially effective treatment to rebalance the intestinal flora. Additional benefits of taking these supplements include a better immune-system response ande a reduction in the intensity of symptoms for some allergy sufferers. Probiotic nutritional supplements are available in the form of powders, ready-made drinks or capsules.
Maltodextrin
Maltodextrin, also referred to as multidextrose and glucose powder, is a complex carbohydrate and an ingredient of supplements used by athletes to extend stamina and meet the extra energy demands of endurance sports. Complex carbohydrates--found in foods such as brown rice, whole grain breads and muesli--release their energy slowly into the bloodstream to provide sustained energy. Unlike the calories from simple carbohydrates found in processed foods such as candy bars and sodas, calories from the complex versions are less likely to be converted into stored body fat, i.e., unhealthy weight gain. This easily absorbed powdered supplement is added to milk or fruit juices and is a useful addition to the diets of those who simply cannot consume enough calories to put on weight.
Whey Protein
Whey protein is a natural by-product of cheese-making that is rich in amino acids, the building blocks of the body. It is easily and quickly absorbed by the digestive system, provides the body with antioxidants that protect bones and muscles from damage and increases immune-system activity. This supplement makes a good breakfast drink or quick additional snack when the powder is added to smoothies or mixed with milk or juices. It is especially useful for those on tight schedules because of its fast absorption rate and ease of preparation.

Cholesterol and triglycerides are two kinds of fats that are necessary for life. Cholesterol is necessary for producing hormones, producing vitamin D and building cell membranes. Triglycerides are fatty acids that provide energy for cells. For many people, having too much cholesterol and triglycerides in their blood can be life threatening. High cholesterol and triglycerides are linked to heart disease and strokes. If you are concerned about high cholesterol and high triglycerides, you can follow a few easy steps to check your levels at home.
Instructions
1. Purchase a home triglycerides and cholesterol test kit. They are available online and at most drug stores. Your doctor may be able to recommend a reliable kit for home use.
2. Check the package for the level of accuracy before purchasing a home test kit. Triglycerides and cholesterol home test kits should have at least a 95 percent level of accuracy and be approved by the FDA.
3. Make sure to read the directions thoroughly on the triglycerides and cholesterol home test kit before drawing blood. Double-check the directions for fasting requirements; many home test kits for triglycerides and cholesterol require fasting 10 to 12 hours prior to testing.
4. Follow the kit directions to prick your finger for blood droplets. Most triglycerides and cholesterol tests require several drops of blood. The middle finger is usually the best place to draw blood.
5. Clean the finger you are going to prick with gauze and alcohol.
6. Prick the finger according to directions, and place the blood sample on the strip or in the collection device of the test kit.
7. Check the results. The triglycerides and cholesterol results are usually displayed on an easy-to-read monitor. Some kits can take up to 10 minutes to reveal results.
8. Read the chart on the home test kit directions for safe triglycerides and cholesterol counts. Compare your triglycerides and cholesterol results.
9. Contact a doctor as soon as possible if your triglycerides and/or cholesterol results are above normal. Triglycerides that are higher than 150 mg/dL and cholesterol that is higher than 200 mg/dL are usually considered unsafe.

Calcium is needed for strong bones and teeth and for healthy gums. It is also needed to maintain a normal heartbeat, for the transmission of nerve impulses and for the proper functioning of muscles.
Instructions
1. Take vitamin C at the same time you take a calcium supplement. Or eat a food rich in vitamin C, such as an orange. This helps with the absorption of calcium.
2. Eat foods high in the amino acid lysine, which is needed for calcium absorption. These include eggs, fish, lima beans and soy products.
3. Take a sunbath without sunscreen for 15 minutes, three times a week. Sunshine is the easiest way to get vitamin D, which is essential for proper absorption of calcium. Stay out of the sun when the rays are strongest, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
4. Divide up your doses of calcium. It appears to work more effectively if taken in smaller doses spread out over the day, rather than a large dose all at once.
5. Combine calcium with magnesium in a 2-1 ratio - two parts calcium to one part magnesium.
6. Avoid taking iron and calcium together. It reduces the efficacy of both minerals.
7. Avoid taking large doses of zinc with calcium. At high doses, zinc can interfere with calcium absorption.
8. Decrease or eliminate soft drinks from your diet. They are high in phosphorus, which can cause you to lose calcium. High phosphorus intake can lead to calcium excretion in your urine.
9. Decrease or eliminate animal-based products in your diet. High intake of animal-based proteins causes increased amounts of calcium to be excreted in your urine. A high intake of sodium is another culprit.
10. Cut down on junk foods, alcohol, caffeine and white flour. All of these lead to an excessive loss of calcium from your body and a decreased rate of absorption.
11. Eat foods containing oxalic acid in moderation. Oxalic acid interferes with calcium absorption. Foods containing oxalic acid include almonds, beet greens, cashews, chard, kale, rhubarb and spinach.
12. Use wheat bran in moderation. Excessive amounts can interfere with calcium absorption.
13. Check your prescription medications. Some, such as glucocorticoids, can interfere with calcium absorption. Discuss supplementation with your doctor.

Vitamin D is produced by your body when you are exposed to sunlight and can also be obtained from foods such as fish and dairy products. If your body lacks the proper amount of Vitamin D, you can develop health problems such as depression and a weak immune system. It is important to find out if you are getting your recommended daily amount.
Instructions
1. Check your daily diet. If you aren't consuming egg yolks, fish or cheese on a daily basis you are at risk for vitamin D deficiency. Vegetarians and vegans are especially at risk for developing the deficiency. In order to improve vitamin levels, increase your intake of fish and egg yolks, since egg yolks are the best source.
2. Take Vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D supplements can also aid in raising vitamin levels in your body when taken daily. According to the American Academy of Dermatology the recommended daily value for men and women between the ages of 14 through 50 is 5 mcg, or 200 units, unless your doctor recommends a higher dosage. If you are at risk (older, have dark skin, are obese or photosensitive, you may require a higher dosage. Taking more than the recommended amount can result in dry mouth, nausea and loss of appetite.
3. Check your overall health. Vitamin D deficiency symptoms include constant fatigue, depression and muscle pain. While the symptoms could be a result of something else, it is always best to see a doctor when you experience these symptoms for more than a few days. Heart disease, arthritis and irritable bowel disorder can result from long periods of time without proper vitamin intake.
4. Consult your doctor. Your physician can take x-ray scans or a blood sample to determine your vitamin levels using the 25-hydroxy vitamin D test.

Cellulitis is a common skin infection that occurs when bacteria get under the skin through a wound and invade the soft tissue. Cellulitis can occur almost anywhere on the body although most infections involve the legs. Typically, cellulitis infections clear up completely after seven to 10 days with antibiotic treatment. In rare cases, you may have to be hospitalized if the infection gets worse or you have other medical problems. There are several ways to tell if cellulitis is healing.
Instructions
1. Monitor your early symptoms closely once you start your antibiotic treatment. The level of discomfort that you feel is an indication of how well your treatment is working. Provided that you were diagnosed early, you should start to recover within two or three days after you start taking antibiotics. If you had any fever, chills, swelling, nausea and vomiting initially, those symptoms should be greatly improved after a few days on antibiotics.
2. Pay close attention to the infected area and make sure the appearance of the skin is improving. If the infected area was painful, tender, or hot when you started your antibiotic treatment, after two or three days of treatment, you should have less discomfort. Much of the soreness should have gone away, and the appearance of the infected area should have improved. The red area should be getting smaller and the skin should not feel hard to the touch.
3. Usually, your doctor will want you to take antibiotics for seven to 10 days. If the antibiotic treatment is successful, you should be completely healed at the end of the 10-day period. Assess the affected area carefully after you finish your antibiotic prescription. Check to see that any previously open wounds are completely healed. Your skin should be pliable, not discolored or swollen. Any scarring should be mild and should fade with time.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition demonstrates a significant increase in metabolism from regular green tea consumption. Study participants experienced, on average, a 4 percent increase in metabolism after consuming green tea extract. Green tea leaves are not fermented and contain more catechins than other teas. These important polyphenols, coupled with the natural caffeine present in green tea, is likely the reason that regular green tea consumption can boost metabolism, increase fat burning and promote weight loss.
For the best results, drink green tea as a metabolism-boosting supplement to your comprehensive weight loss plan that should also include increased activity and a healthy diet. You can also take green tea extract in powder or capsule form in place of drinking green tea. This option is more convenient if you don't have time to prepare tea throughout the day.
Instructions
1. Place approximately 1 teaspoon of green tea in a tea pot or in a tea ball placed in a 6 to 8 oz. ceramic mug. Using high quality loose leaf green tea, rather than tea bags, will ensure that you receive the highest levels of polyphenols and metabolism boosting effects.
2. Heat water in a tea kettle or cooking pot until just before boiling. Boiling water can cook the green tea leaves, which will produce a bitter tea and reduce health benefits.
3. Allow the water to cool for approximately 60 seconds, then pour into the teapot or ceramic mug.
4. Steep the green tea leaves for 2 to 4 minutes. Longer steeping times can lower green tea's metabolism boosting properties.
5. Drink 3 to 5 cups of green tea at regular intervals throughout the day. Make sure that your first cup is soon after waking in order to give your metabolism an immediate morning boost. Participants in the most recent study showing green tea's metabolism boosting effects consumed the tea with their meals.
6. If the above green tea preparation is too time-intensive, you can also add powdered green tea extract to bottled tea or take green tea extract capsules.
7. Increase your metabolism further by adding 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity to your daily schedule. Physical activity, coupled with regular green tea consumption will help you maintain increased metabolism throughout the day.
8. Eat small meals throughout the day. Eating 5 to 7 small meals throughout the day raises your metabolism longer when compared to the traditional 3-meals-per-day model. Smaller meals based on a well-balanced, low fat diet consisting of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and healthy, lean proteins will work with the green tea to boost your metabolism and increase weight loss.

May is National Salad Month. Salad lore traces back centuries to simple vegetable dishes of the Roman Empire. Today salads are made with crisp greens, delectable pastas, luscious fruit and flaked seafood. A different salad can be served every day of the year. Here are ideas tossed out for your salad days.
Instructions
1. Serve up a salad buffet. Visit a produce department for green variety. Romaine, leafy lettuces, cabbage and mustard leaves add extra vitamins and color to traditional iceberg lettuces. Put out washed greens with dishes of vegetables like sugar peas, grated carrots, raw broccoli florets and cauliflower chunks. Choose cherry or small tomatoes for easy handling. Put chilled salad or soup bowls out for your family. This is a build-your-own-salad event.
2. Swap salads with a friend. If you make a great tossed green salad and a neighbor makes terrific potato salad, each should make two salads. Keep one and swap one. Hold a salad tasting with every guest bringing a favorite salad. Set out the salads and swap salad recipes and tips.
3. Dine out on the salad menu. Flip your restaurant menu to the salads and try a new selection. Start your meal with a small salad or go straight to the main salads. Restaurant salads may be a towering plate of romaine, grilled chicken, apples and cheeses. A seasonal fresh fruit salad bowl may be a half pineapple sliced and buried in a garden of berries, melons, grapes and tropical fruit.
4. Play at the kid table. Children celebrate salads by making raisin faces on peach halves, adding celery stick arms and legs, then gobbling the salad man. Make finger salads for children by providing lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes, celery and carrot sticks, sugar peas and baby corn ears. Add a dipping dressing and napkins.
5. Serve up salads in fun style. Hollow out watermelons or large melons for fruit salads. Use a pottery bowl for bean salads. Serve pasta salads over slices of garlic bread. Cut open and clean out squash and pumpkins for vegetable salads. Visit dollar stores for unusual bowls or tubs to hold ice. Nestle your chilled tuna or chicken salad bowls in the ice-filled punch bowls. Enjoy your journey through National Salad Month. Take the advice of horticulturist George Ellwanger, "To remember a successful salad is generally to remember a successful dinner; at all events, the perfect dinner necessarily includes the perfect salad.”

It's important to start reading labels when purchasing your vitamins.
Understanding the difference between natural and synthetic vitamins is essential before making a purchase. Synthetic vitamins are often much less effective due to the chemically created components.
Read Labels
When purchasing your vitamins, it's important to read and understand what the information on the label means. Note if the source of the vitamin is natural or synthetic. The label may read "dl" which means the source is synthetic while a "d" means the vitamin source is natural. You can find a chart at www.nutriteam.com which will also help you decide whether a vitamin is natural or synthetic.
Natural Vitamins
Natural vitamins are more beneficial because they are more easily absorbed due to the presence of micro-nutrients. Micro-nutrients are dietary minerals that are beneficial to the body and allow optimum absorption of vitamins.
Synthetic Vitamins
The properties of synthetic vitamins are manipulated in a laboratory. This often skews the absorption process by leaving out members of the micro-nutrient family. According to Nutriteam "synthetic vitamins, prepared from chemicals instead of nature, are frequently less active biologically than their natural counterparts."

Fibromyalgia is an illness characterized by chronic pain, sleep disorders and fatigue that affects 15 million Americans. There is no cure, but many patients find relief through prescription drugs and lifestyle changes. Here are some ideas about what to eat if you have Fibromyalgia and want to reduce the number of flare-ups.
Instructions
1. Change to a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Choose lean protein, such as eggs, tofu, lean meats, poultry and fish. Make sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and limit servings of bread, rice and pasta.
2. Change your diet to incorporate healthy fats. These include sesame oil, olive oil, canola oil, nuts and avocados. You could stir fry vegetables and lean meat with one of these healthy oils. Add some ginger or turmeric to your stir-fry, too. These are anti-inflammatory foods.
3. Reduce the alcohol, caffeine and sugar in your diet. Also avoid artificial sweeteners and if you must use them, change to natural ones like Stevia.
4. Omega 3 fatty acids are also thought to help with chronic pain by reducing inflammation. Sprinkle ground flax seed on your cereal every morning at breakfast.
5. Each morning, take a multi-vitamin, alone with some or all of the following supplements and minerals:
If you have scars that have become discolored either due to sun exposure or just because of the severity of the original wound, then you would likely prefer to have them removed. However, surgical removal often comes with the risk of more severe -- albeit different -- scars, and can be very expensive as well as not covered by insurance. For cosmetically displeasing scars that do not constitute a health problem, you can often use a vitamin E regimen to remove them over the course of several months.
Instructions
1. Exfoliate the scarred area every three days. Use the gentle exfoliating cleanser and the soft washcloth or your fingertips. Scrub with circular motions and light pressure. You do not want to scrape the area, only remove the dead skin cells from the area. Vitamin E is much more effective on newly-exfoliated skin, and removing skin cells from the scarred area will hasten the growth of new, naturally-colored skin. The days you do not exfoliate, just wash the area gently.
2. Smooth the vitamin E oil into the scarred area. Do this every day, even though you can only exfoliate every three days. The days you do not exfoliate, just wash the area gently. Use gentle pressure and smooth the oil into the scar along the length of the scar. This will help stimulate blood flow to the scar to encourage the growth of new skin cells, and the vitamin E oil will lighten the dark sin.
3. Moisturize the area. Keeping the area fully hydrated will help with healing. Use a rich moisturizer on the area at least twice a day: in the morning before makeup and at night before bed. Do not apply it until the vitamin E oil has been fully absorbed.
4. Take a daily vitamin E supplement. Vitamin E works topically and internally. You will give your skin the best chance at healing if you provide vitamin E in both forms.

Fibromyalgia treatment can be done with medication, health diets, supplements, and home remedies. Eliminating fibromyalgia pain will help you feel better physically.
Instructions
1. Take omega-3 and eat foods that contain omega-3. Omega-3 fatty acids help promote strong joints, and bones in the body. It also reduces inflammation throughout your body. It's best to take omega-3 supplements.
You also want to get more omega-3 foods into your diet. Eat more fish. Other foods high in omega-3 are walnuts, strawberries, spinach, green beans, squash, flaxseed oil, cauliflower, broccoli, cod, salmon, cabbage, halibut, and tofu.
2. Drink green tea. Drinking green teen is a natural way to boosting your immune system, along with the antioxidants making it anti-inflammatory for the body. Green tea helps reduce pain in arthritis, and also plays a role in reducing pain from fibromyalgia. Fatigue is also linked to fibromyalgia, where green tea boosts your energy levels.
3. Take turmeric to reduce pain. Turmeric relieves inflammation in the body. It also promotes strong joints in the body. Turmeric is a natural healer and can reduce pain naturally. It's an Indian spice, but has wonderful benefits as a health supplement. It's been used for centuries as a herbal medicine. It was used in World War 2 to treat gun shot wounds to British soldiers. Turmeric can be a natural way to reduce fibromyalgia pain. Taking a teaspoon a day is recommended. You can find turmeric in capsules at a local health store.
4. Get more vitamin D and calcium into your diet. A lot of studies suggest a lack of vitamin D can increase the chances of fibromyalgia. Vitamin D provides strong bone and muscle structure in the body. Vitamin D increases calcium absorption. Milk contains a great source of vitamin D. Also, salmon and cod liver provides a good source of vitamin D in them.
Lack of calcium causes bone breakdown in the body. 99 percent of calcium found in the human body is in the teeth and bones. Most people lack enough calcium in their diet. A lot of spices contain a good amount of calcium. Rosemary, oregano, thyme, and basil all are great sources for calcium. Spinach and turnip are excellent sources of calcium. Oranges, collard greens, cabbage, asparagus, along with mozzarella cheese(part skimmed) have good sources of calcium in them.
5. Use ice packs. Also take ice baths when the pain symptoms are causing discomfort. Ice reduces inflammation, while numbing the pain and helps heal the body. Ice is actually quite beneficial to your health. You should use ice packs, when you feel inflammation in a specific area of your body.
6. Get more garlic into your diet. Garlic is a great way to boost the immune system and help reduce inflammation naturally. Not only should you eat more garlic, you should consider taking garlic supplements as well. Garlic also reduce joint swelling. Garlic is one of the better and natural ways to reduce inflammation in the body.
7. Get exercise and visit a chiropractor. It's important to still exercise. Don't exercise where it involves lifting, or a lot of intensity in bones and muscles. Something like yoga would be a great way to help reduce pain.
Also see a chiropractor. Someone who can apply massages and give you physical therapy that could be needed. Physical therapy by a professional is a great way to reduce fibromyalgia pain. Also, check with your doctor for any medications you're taking. If your doctor has prescribed any medications to take, its best to check with them first before taking health supplements.

There are no cures for cold sores, but the symptoms can be treated with vitamins. Cold sores are contagious skin eruptions that usually occur around the mouth. The herpes simplex virus causes cold sores. Cold sores affect people in different ways. Some people get one outbreak during their lives, while others get frequent and multiple cold sores that require medical attention. While cold sores usually heal on their own, this can take seven to 10 days. Natural remedies like vitamins can accelerate the healing time and help alleviate symptoms.
Cold Sores Defined
A cold sore is a red, fluid-filled blister. These skin eruptions usually appear on the face, but some people get cold sores on their fingers. Cold sores can appear in the mouth or on the corneas, but mostly they are found around the lips, nose and chin. After exposure to the virus, the first cold sores appear about 20 days later. Before that, there may be pain or itching or burning in the area. Then a hard, small bump develops under the skin. When the cold sore forms it is a fluid-filled, painful blister. A cold sore lasts from a week to 10 days, at which point it breaks and the fluids pour out. A crust forms that eventually falls away, leaving the skin clear.
Vitamins A and B and Cold Sores
Vitamin A is well-known to treat skin problems. Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, is used to treat acne and wrinkles. Taking this fat-soluble vitamin every day will help with skin renewal. But high doses of vitamin A can lead to toxicity, so don't take more than 25,000 IUs (international units) each day. Vitamin B complex can help to relax a person and reduce stress, a known trigger of cold sores.
Vitamins C and E and Cold Sores
In most cases, it is the immune system that determines how a person will react when exposed to the herpes virus. One way to reduce the chances of getting herpes simplex or to improve healing time is to boost up the immune system. Vitamin C is an excellent vitamin for fighting infections. In some cases, vitamin C helps to reduce the duration and number of cold sore outbreaks. According to Best Herpes Treatments, vitamin C "can activate white blood cells and promote interferon production, a natural antiviral agent." Take 1000 mg of vitamin C a day for best results. Vitamin E, applied topically to the skin, is known to help reduce scars and skin irritation. By applying natural (not synthetic) vitamin E oil to each cold sore, the pain and itching will be alleviated and may also speed up the healing. Both vitamins C and E are antioxidants that remove free radicals or toxins from the body that can damage cells.
Sources of Vitamins
Vitamins are recommended as a safe and natural way to treat, and in some cases prevent, a cold sore. It is best to get vitamins from the foods you eat, but taking supplements is a good way to get concentrated doses of the vitamins. Taking a multivitamin is a good way to get all the vitamins you need to treat cold sores.
The Jack Russell terrier is a medium-maintenance breed. This is a dog that tests your limits. You must be able to be firm and kind to it. If you tend toward being the doting type of pet owner, the Jack is not for you.
Instructions
1. Understand Jack Russell Terriers are high energy dogs.
2. Prepare company before they reach your home. Jack Russells love visitors and will jump all over anyone who lets them.
3. Keep your Jack's weight down. Overweight dogs have more health problems, including heart trouble and arthritis.
4. Learn about what health problems are associated with this breed: cataracts, glaucoma, deafness (common in all white dogs), epilepsy, patellar luxation (poor development of the parts holding the kneecap in place), Von Willebrand's disease (a blood disorder), cardiomyopathy (a serious heart abnormality), allergies and skin problems.
5. Brush your terrier every other day with a rubber curry brush to help control shedding. There are three coat types: smooth, broken and rough. All three types shed year-round. The smooth coat sheds the most.
6. Bathe your terrier whenever it takes on a yellow cast. It doesn't require special grooming and can be washed at home.
7. Make sure to trim this dog's nails regularly ' once a month ' to prevent foot problems.
8. Remember that terriers are bred to dig. Expect this behavior, particularly if you leave your dog alone all day.
9. Keep your Jack Russell indoors or out. Remember that it will chase any and everything, and you absolutely must have a secure yard.
10. Remember that while it looks like a small dog, you essentially have a 130-pound dog in that body. These dogs are extremely intelligent, very bold and have no sense of their small stature.
11. Be prepared to enjoy a good 15 years with your Jack Russell, as this is the average life expectancy for a Jack Russell Terrier.

Vitamin B6 is an essential nutrient which helps create antibodies to fight infection, promote normal nerve function, form red blood cells and break down proteins in the body. Deficiency of this nutrient can cause sores in the mouth, depression, and confusion. Because Vitamin B6 is water-soluble, it cannot be stored in the fat cells of the body and needs constant replenishment. Whole grains, beans, meats (especially liver), and certain vegetables are all high in B6.
Beans and Legumes
Chickpeas and peanut butter are both very high in B6, with 0.8 mg in a 200-calorie serving. This represents 40 percent of your daily dietary needs for B6. Many meat substitutes and soy milks made from soy protein are also high in B6. Kidney and pinto beans are also good sources of Vitamin B6.
Vegetables and Fruits
Most peppers are very high in B6, though they are eaten at such small quantities that their nutrition is not very dense. For example, one cup of raw sliced jalapenos contains 23 percent of the recommended daily value of B6. Chinese cabbage, spinach and watercress are also high in B6, along with turnip greens and okra; 200-calorie portions of these foods provide 0.2 mg of B6, which is 11 percent of your daily value. Few fruits are high in B6. The exceptions are bananas, which contain 0.4 mg per medium banana, and casaba melons.
Poultry and Seafood
Chicken liver contains a substantial amount of B6, with 12 percent of your daily needs per 1-oz. serving. White turkey and chicken meat contain a substantial amount of B6---0.2 mg per ounce. Unusual poultry meats like emu and ostrich are also quite high in B6. Yellowfin tuna is a good source of Vitamin B6, with 0.8 mg or 38 percent of your daily value in a 3-oz. serving. Salmon, clams and mollusks, and trout are all great sources of B6 as well.
Beef and Pork
Organ meats of beef are very high in B6, particularly beef liver and kidneys. Liver contains 0.3 mg of B6 in a 1-oz. serving, while kidneys contain 0.8 mg in the same amount. Cuts of beef like London broil and eye of round are also high in B6. Pork tenderloin and pork chops are good sources of Vitamin B6 as well.
Grains
Wheat germ, with 1.5 mg per cup, is a rich source of B6. Many breakfast cereals that contain whole grains are high in B6 as well. Oatmeal is also a good source of B6, with 0.1 mg per cup. Whole wheat pastas also contain substantial amounts of B6---whole wheat spaghetti contains 0.1 mg per serving.

Dog allergies can manifest in many ways: ear infections, chewing on feet or other body parts, runny nose or eyes, general itchiness, hair loss and hot spots. It is difficult to predict what is causing these allergies, especially if it is an airborne mold or pollen. Often, it is a result of toxins built up in the body of an immune-weakened dog. Many veterinarians will prescribe steroids or antihistamines to alleviate symptoms, but the relief is often short-lived. Dog allergies can also be improved with a healthier diet and increased vitamins designed to reduce symptoms for the long term.
Instructions
1. Increase the omega 3 fatty acids, important anti-inflammatory agents, in your dog's diet. An easy way to accomplish this is add a fish oil capsule, available at any grocery or health food store, to your dog's food.
2. Add vitamins A, C and E to your dog's diet. Antioxidants such as these remove free radicals and other toxins from the body, reducing the itchy symptoms. Switch your dog to a healthier food that adds more vitamins and minerals or add a multivitamin capsule to your dog's meals.
3. Add a small amount of licorice root to your dog's diet. Licorice stimulates natural production of anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and immune-supporting agents, which can provide relief from itchiness and inflammation.
4. Add digestive enzymes to your dog's diet, which will allow him to absorb more nutrients from his food. This promotes a healthier immune system with which to combate allergies. Digestive enzymes that aid canine food digestion are protease, which breaks proteins into amino acids; amylase, which reduces carbohydrates into a more digestible form; lipase, which digests fats into fatty acids; and cellulase, which breaks down fiber.
5. Bathe your dog with an oatmeal-based shampoo to soothe itchy skin. Using herbs topically is also an effective way to alleviate allergy symptoms. To make your own rinse, boil 1 pound of organic oat straw in 2 quarts of water and add to your dog's bath water.
Obesity is an epidemic in the United States and worldwide. Not only are a vast number of adults obese or overweight, but the epidemic has now trickled down to children; 9 million children ages nine to 19 are overweight or obese. It is vital that we teach our children better nutrition and eating habits. A great way to start is with fun but educational games about nutrition and eating.
Food Group Labeling
Knowing the basic food groups is an essential foundation for learning about nutrition. Download or draw a blank template of the food pyramid. Have students label each food group with its proper name and examples of the types of food in each group. Have younger children draw the foods; older children can write out the food names.
Junk Food/Healthy Food Flash Cards
Create a set of flash cards that include a combination of healthy foods and junk foods. Healthy foods include fruits, vegetables, whole-grain products, milk, cheese and chicken. Junk foods include potato chips, candy, cake and soda pop. The flash cards can be used in pairs, groups or with the entire class; students will have fun guessing which foods are healthy and which are junk foods.
Food Diary Chart
Create a food diary chart that includes all of the proper food groups; grains, vegetables, fruit, dairy, meats and fats/oils are the categories recommended by the Food and Drug Administration. Have children chart their eating habits by filling in a square when they eat a food in a certain category. Award prizes to students who get the daily recommended allowance of fruits and vegetables or manage not to exceed the recommended servings in the fats/oils category. For older students, consider having them track calories in addition to food groups.
Vitamins and Minerals
Instruct students about the importance of vitamins and minerals in their daily diet. Make a chart of different foods and list the vitamins and minerals each food provides. Turn the lesson into a game by creating a chart that requires the student to match the food with its major vitamin or mineral component. Use spinach and beef as sources of iron, milk and yogurt as sources of calcium and citrus fruits as sources of vitamin C.

Syndrome X, or metabolic syndrome, is diagnosed when at least three of a group of cardiac risk factors are present. These risk factors include insulin resistance, high blood pressure, obesity, elevated triglycerides, reduced HDL (the good cholesterol), elevated fasting glucose, abnormalities in blood clotting and lipid abnormalities.
Instructions
1. Eat healthy. If you are overweight, chances are you are eating the wrong foods and too much of them. Change your eating habits to include only healthy choices. Then eat in moderation and avoid snacking. Consider what each food can do for your body. Take, for instance, the avocado. While high in fat, the avocado is high in the good fat that increases your HDL--or good cholesterol.
2. Maintain a healthy weight. To do this properly, you must incorporate a healthy diet with reasonable portions and moderate, regular exercise. As general guidelines, men should not allow their waistline to exceed 40 inches. Women should not allow theirs to exceed 35 inches. Any excess weight has negative effects on your health--but when the excess weight accumulates aroung the stomach area it has the worst effects on overall health and becomes one of the risk factors for syndrome X.
3. Exercise on a regular basis. Moving or standing all day at work does not constitute exercise. Proper exercise works all the muscles. Furthermore, a cardiac workout increases the heart rate, thus making the heart muscle stronger. In most cases, to work off weight, you have to sweat. One exception would be a workout swimming laps in a pool.
If you have not exercised in a long while, join a gym and let a trainer help you design an exercise program suitable to your age and condition.
4. Monitor--and if need be, treat--your blood pressure. Besides eating those foods that raise your HDL, which helps protect your blood vessels, you can practice calming techniques to reduce stress--another key factor in raising blood pressure.
Consider yoga or tai chi or other meditative practices.
5. Watch your blood sugar levels, especially if you are at risk for diabetes.

Gout is a very painful condition that begins in the toes, heels or ankles. It can also manifest in the fingers and wrists. It is caused by a buildup of uric acid in the bloodstream that can often go years between attacks. In order to prevent attacks of gout, add some vitamins to your diet that will help the body eliminate uric acid naturally.
Vitamin C
Evidence based on studies published in the Arthritis and Rheumatology journal in June 2005 revealed that gout sufferers who took 500 milligrams of vitamin C a day were able to lower the amount of uric acid in the bloodstream, lessening pain flareups and their severity.
Folic Acid
Another vitamin said to help relieve gout is folic acid. While no conclusive studies definitely link the vitamin with gout relief, many patients and professionals believe folic acid helps the body produce fewer enzymes that make up uric acid. More studies are needed to make the claims definitive.
Bromelain
Bromelain is a vitamin that assists the body in blocking inflammation. Because gout is a result of swollen joints, this vitamin can help relieve the symptoms. It is not able to attacks the causes of the condition. Patients can take supplements or eat pineapple, a natural source of bromelain.
Vitamin B2, also known as vitamin G or riboflavin, is essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates, amino acids and fats in the body. Vitamin B2 is also necessary for healthy eyes, hair, skin and nails and can help prevent some forms of cataracts. Finally, as if that weren't enough to try to eat more B2, riboflavin prolongs life span and can increase adult vitality.
Instructions
1. Make sure that you get at least 1 mg of Vitamin B2 each day from your diet; however, there is little concern about eating too much, as excess over 25 mg are excreted in urine, prevent toxic effects.
2. Be aware that certain substances can block the absorption of vitamin B2 and may require greater levels of intake each and every day. These substances include sulfur drugs, anti-malarial drugs, estrogeth, cathartic agents, alcohol and some antibiotics. Finally, tranquilizers and anti-depressants may also inhibit absorption, so boost your dietary intake if necessary.
3. Preserve vitamin B2 in foods by eating foods fresh and raw whenever possible, as heat and exposure to light can destroy the vitamin. Additionally, while organ meats are often hailed as one of the highest sources of B2, and you should only eat them if they come from organic and hormone free sources.
4. Eat plenty of dairy products and eggs, some of the best sources of vitamin B2. If you are a vegetarian, make sure that you eat plenty of nuts, seed and legumes, particularly almonds, sunflower seeds, Brazil nuts, soy products and beans of all kinds. You can get sufficient amounts of B2 from grains as well, particularly wheat germ, bran and oats.
5. Get your vitamin B2 from fruit sources, such as dates, and vegetables including green leafy veggies, corn and green peas.
6. Boost your intake of fish and you are sure to get plenty of vitamin B2 as well as essential fatty acids. The best fish sources of riboflavin include scallops, salmon and mackerel.
Brewers yeast is a one-celled fungus scientifically known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Because of its high level of minerals and vitamins, brewers yeast is often used by dog owners and breeders as an alternative treatment for various health ailments.
Features
Brewers yeast is rich in vitamin B, high-quality proteins and minerals such as zinc. It also contains important amino acids.
Misconceptions
It is an old wives' tale that brewers yeast is able to prevent fleas. Actually, according to the book ''Dog Grooming for Dummies,'' brewers yeast is often used by companies that manufacture flea and tick products in order to grow fleas.
Considerations
Some dogs may develop allergies to brewers yeast. The risk is higher in dogs who are prone to skin allergies. Because brewers yeast increases gas and fermentation in the stomach, deep-chested dogs may develop bloat, a potentially fatal condition.
Benefits
Brewers yeast has been reported to reduce shedding and promote healthy skin. There are also claims that brewers yeast helps bolster a dog's immune system.
Types
Brewers yeast can be found in tablets (often with garlic) specially formulated for dogs. As with any supplement, it is always best to consult with a veterinarian first.
First observed in 1743 by a French surgeon, Peyronie's disease is a condition caused by hardening of normally elastic tissue in the penis. The result is curvature or a change in shape which may cause pain and interfere with sexual activities. Although less than 4 percent of men are affected, most are white and over 40. Risks are increased for smokers, close relatives of affected men, and those with a history of injury to the penis. European urologist Albert Leriche was inspired to free connective tissue the way hand surgeons do for those with contractures.
Background
Without treatment, 15 percent of Peyronie's disease cases improve spontaneously. Half of patients get worse, and the remainder stay the same. There is no single cure or treatment for Peyronie's disease. Vitamins E and C and the amino acid L-carnitine, along with medication have poor success rates. The only surgical treatment available prior to the Leriche technique straightened the penis of men with Peyronie's disease by shortening elastic tissue opposite the inflexible scar tissue. Most men are unhappy with the results because the procedure, known as Nesbit surgery, considerably shortens the length of the penis.
Before men are considered for the Leriche technique, they should have a history of at least three month's oral treatment that did not work. The disease must be severe enough to interfere with sexual function. Diabetics, or those who take blood thinning medications, may be ruled out. Men who have had Peyronie's disease for less than 18 months, a phase characterized by pain and inflammation, are not considered for the Leriche technique until scarring, or plaque, has stabilized. Plaque must be localized in an area small enough that it is likely to benefit from the procedure.
The Procedure
The Leriche technique is most often an outpatient procedure. The extent of plaque is located and measured under ultrasound. Anesthetic is used to numb the penis. Saline solution is injected to induce a penile erection. Plaque is then slashed with a needle or lance to break up the scarred connective tissue so the penis can straighten. Adjustments are made, with more saline solution and more lacerations, until the desired penile position is achieved. A pressure bandage is applied for three hours.
Aftercare and Outcomes
Following Leriche technique treatment, men must engage in early and daily sexual activity for one month to maintain good results. Approximately 30 percent of men who undergo the procedure are cured. Another 50 percent gain sexual function after one or more repeated attempts with the Leriche technique. Leriche is minimally invasive compared to Nesbit surgery and has had better outcomes. Also, for the 20 percent of men for whom Leriche does fail, the technique will not interfere with the option to have other treatments, such as surgery or penile implants.
Rose hips liquid extract is a natural dietary supplement that can be taken alone or added to drinks and food. The extract is a good source of vitamins and anti-inflammatory agents.
Features
Rose hips are the fruit left on a rose bush after the flower has bloomed and died. The extract is made by boiling, simmering, then steeping the rose hips in water, creating a concentrated liquid with all the vitamins and minerals.
Nutrients
Rose hips liquid extract is particularly high in vitamin C, as well as vitamins D, E, folate, fatty acids, and antioxidants.
Cold Treatment
Because rose hips have a higher vitamin C content than citrus fruits, the liquid extract is ideal for cold treatments, particularly when added to hot herbal tea.
Arthritis Treatment
According to Vegetarian-Nutrition.info, rose hips liquid extract has anti-inflammatory properties that "have recently been shown to be useful in the treatment of patients suffering from knee or hip osteoarthritis."
Expert Insight

Gout is an arthritic condition that causes swelling, inflammation and pain in the joints. Symptoms of gout often get worse at night and can strike almost any part of the body, including the heel of the hand and hand joints, making it difficult to carry out daily activities. If you experience gout in your hands, there are a few things you can do at home to lessen the pain and maybe even make the condition disappear completely.
Apples and Other Fruit
Apples are believed to be a major defense against gout and it is widely thought that eating an apple each day, or even three times a day after each meal, can have a positive effect on the inflammation and pain that gout produces.
Additional fruits that are known to be useful in fighting gout symptoms include bananas, strawberries, cherries, berries, lemons and limes. Bananas contain phosphorous, a mineral that helps the body eliminate uric acid buildup in the body, the cause of gout. Three to four bananas should be eaten each day for maximum effectiveness. The vitamin C in strawberries, cherries, lemons and limes also helps decrease uric acid in the body. Eat between 15 and 25 fresh strawberries or cherries or drink the juice of one-half of a lemon or lime in a glass of water three times daily.
Other dense sources of vitamin C for fighting gout include tomatoes, green peppers, leafy green vegetables and gooseberries.
Pastes and Baths
Not every method of treating gout is done internally. There are several methods of soaking a gout-affected area thought to bring relief from gout symptoms.
Charcoal baths are used as a gout remedy. To create the bath, mix one-half a cup of charcoal power with just enough water to form a paste. Place the affected hand into the mixture and add enough water to completely cover the hand. Keep your hand in the bath for 30 to 60 minutes.
You can also fight gout using a paste that contains one part ground mustard to one part whole-wheat powder. Add just enough water to form the paste. Spread it over the gout-affected hand and keep it on overnight. Place a glove on the hand to keep the paste from flaking off.

When considering what to eat and drink to help your vocal cords, it is a safe bet you will see a longer list of foods that you should actually avoid. Still there are certain foods that will keep your throat and vocal cords healthy. As far as liquids go, water is considered very good for your throat and vocal cords while milk is counter productive.
Whole Grains
Whole grain foods contain vitamins A, C and E and these particular nutrients help your vocal cords. The nutrients help repair any slight damage to the vocal cords as well as strengthen them against damage. Vitamin A helps cells regenerate while vitamin C helps improve immune functions of the body making it easier to fight off infections like a sore throat. Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant that protects cell membranes and boosts the body's immune system.
Chicken, Fish and Almonds
Chicken, fish and almonds all serve as high protein foods that will fuel your body and keep your vocal cords working well. These foods are good for the vocal cords as long as they are not served with heavy spices. Spicy foods will increase acid in the stomach and that acid can rise up through the esophagus and damage the vocal cords.
Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits, such as apples, are good for vocal cords because they are high in protein as well as vitamins A and C. Yellow vegetables are also good for the vocal cords. Green vegetables should be avoided when preparing for a speech or a performance as they may cause you to bloat and become gassy.
Honey
Honey is good for the throat because the substance contains natural antibiotic properties that will keep vocal cords healthier. Some people believe tea with honey is good for vocal cords but for maximum efficiency, avoid tea as the caffeine contained in tea leaves will cause the vocal cords to constrict.

Parents of toddlers typically have many concerns, such as wondering when the little one will start talking and beginning potty training. Some look forward to baby teeth, because it means the toddler can start eating regular food (which may mean less work for the parents). Baby teeth, or primary teeth, are usually ivory or off-white, but many modern toddlers have discolored teeth.
Symptoms
Discolored toddler teeth come in a wide variety of shades and textures. According to Babycenter.com, some toddlers have yellow or orange-colored teeth, while others show dark brown stains. Many parents notice spots on their toddlers' teeth, such as white spots or dark spots.
Possible Causes
There are dozens of reasons why toddlers may have stained teeth. One of the most common reasons is inadequate brushing that leaves bacteria and plaque formation on the teeth. Some medications, such as supplemental vitamins containing high amounts of iron, can cause dark teeth stains, according to the Mayo Clinic. Pregnant mothers who took the antibiotic tetracycline (including oxytetracyclin, minocycline and doxycycline) may have toddlers with discolored teeth. Many types of toothpastes have too much fluoride for toddlers, and they leave white spots on teeth. Some toddlers have genetic enamel formation issues that cause discolored teeth, while others have injured the root of their teeth from hard falls.
Illnesses
Discolored toddler teeth may be the symptom of an illness. Some newborns that had jaundice will have spotted teeth. Some toddler teeth are discolored from high recurring fevers or infections. Other conditions, such as some types of heart disease or hepatitis, will result in discolored teeth.
Treatment/Removal
Usually you can remove a stain resulting from plaque buildup and improper brushing; use an adult toothpaste or brush with baking soda and water. Some dentists will do professional scrubbing on toddler teeth, while others will not. If the stains are caused by a fall or root injury, the discoloration comes from inside the tooth and cannot be removed.
Prevention/Solution
Avoid discolored toddler teeth by preventing it from occurring. Start brushing toddlers' teeth twice a day with baby toothpaste and a baby toothbrush as soon as the first tooth appears. Avoid giving toddlers sugary drinks, such as concentrated fruit juices and flavored milk. Don't give toddlers drinks, other than water or plain milk, after their teeth are brushed in the evening, and never add sugar to their food or drinks.
There are several brands of vitamins that contain fluoride.
While fluoride is known to help prevent tooth decay, too much of it may cause problems in children. Fluoride is normally present in drinking water and is found in toothpaste, so your child may be receiving an optimal amount. Ingesting too much fluoride in relation to a child's size and weight during the years of tooth development can lead to enamel fluorosis, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Consult with your dentist before supplementing your child's diet with vitamins containing fluoride.
Poly-Vi-Flor
Poly-Vi-Flor is a multivitamin and fluoride supplement prescribed for children ages 2 and older. It only should be given once it has been determined your child's drinking water contains less fluoride than the amount recommended by the American Dental Association. It can be purchased in liquid form for small children or in chewable tablets for older children. Inform your dentist if your child begins drinking a new type of water or if you begin to use a filtering system. Consult with your dentist if discoloration or pitting of the teeth occurs.
Soluvite F
This multivitamin is prescribed as a supplement for infants and children who do not receive adequate amounts of fluoride through drinking water. Soluvite F should not be taken with products containing calcium, such as milk, dairy products, calcium supplements or antacids, because calcium may interfere with proper absorption of the multivitamin. In order to prevent an overdose or serious side effects, do not ingest other multivitamin products within two hours of taking Soluvite F.
Tri-A-Vite
Tri-A-Vite multivitamin is commonly prescribed for children living in areas where insufficient amounts of fluoride are added to water, or when children are suffering from a vitamin or mineral deficiency due to poor diet. This multivitamin must be taken at least two hours before or after ingesting dairy products or products such as laxatives or antiacids that contain aluminum magnesium hydroxide. The best time to take this vitamin is daily at bedtime after brushing your teeth.

Renal failure is diagnosed when the kidneys have lost 50 to 70 per cent of their cells. According to Don Hamilton D.V.M., author of "Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs," it is a particularly difficult disease to deal with as kidney cells do not regenerate. This leaves no chance of retrieving the lost cells. Conventional veterinary medicine provides essential steps to maintaining the health of a cat with renal failure; however, holistic additions may enhance your cat's health.
Herbs
Give your cat herbs that nourish the kidney's tissues. Richard Pritcairn D.V.M., author of "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats," suggests herbs like alfalfa and marshmallow for herbal treatment of renal failure. Marshmallow may be administered by preparing a tea and giving ½ tsp. to your cat two times a day. In a cup of boiling water, infuse 2 tbsp. of marshmallow flowers or leaves and let it steep for five minutes.
Alfalfa is a helpful blood tonic. Pitcairn suggests 1 to 2 drops of alfalfa tincture three times a day to begin with. Or you can give one alfalfa tablet twice a day. Once an improvement is seen, the dose can be given once a day.
Chinese herbs may also benefit your cat by improving blood flow, reducing toxins and blood pressure and promoting urination. According to Cheryl Schwartz, D.V.M., in her book "Four Paws, Five Directions: A Guide to Chinese Medicine for Dogs and Cats," the herbal formula Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is useful in renal failure when there is no vomiting occurring. A similar formula called Chih Pai Di Huang Wan is used with extreme thirst, nervous irritability, high blood pressure, insomnia and hot skin. A veterinarian familiar with Chinese medicine may also be able to give your cat acupuncture to benefit the kidneys.
Supplements
Support your cats overall health to limit stress on the kidneys. According to Schwartz, Coenzyme Q 10 helps to eliminate toxins and facilitates oxygenation and lower blood pressure. Cats can take 10 mg a day. Give your cat digestive enzymes. Adding a digestive enzyme to your cat's food will help her to absorb more nutrients and decrease digestive disturbances.
Be careful when giving vitamin powders to your cat since some ingredients, like vitamin E, can cause an increase in blood pressure.
Homeopathy
Take your cat to a homeopathic veterinarian. While there are numerous homeopathic remedies that can aid in renal failure treatment, a qualified homeopath is often needed to analyze your cat's specific symptoms to match the best remedy.
Food and Lifestyle
Provide quality food and a healthy environment for your cat. According to Pitcairn, highly processed foods, extreme heat, cigarette smoke and chemical fumes should be avoided. Make sure that the cat has fresh air and access to sunlight. Provide plenty of fresh water and brush her frequently.
Remember that renal failure is an extremely serious disease. If your cat appears to worsen, immediately bring her to the veterinarian.
